Cranbrook Academy of Art invites applications to Critical Studies Fellowship Program

Cranbrook Academy of Art, a preeminent graduate school of art, design and architecture, is pleased to announce a unique teaching fellowship. Cranbrook seeks applicants working in the fields of Critical Theory and/or Contemporary Art, Craft and Design Theory for a one-semester residential teaching fellowship for Fall 2011. Candidates must hold an advanced degree in their field (MA or higher, PhD preferred), have graduate-level teaching experience and an interest in the links between theory and visual art/design studio practice. The Fellow will give two public lectures and conduct discussion groups with graduate students.They will also be asked to review student art work and participate in occasional studio critiques. Opportunities also exist for creative curatorial, research or other projects while in residence. This position is well-suited to an emerging professional, although all levels are invited to apply.

• Housing (private apartment on campus)
• Fellows must reside on campus and be free from professional duties during fellowship (September 12- December 16, 2011)

Anna Centenary Research Fellowships 2010

Anna University is proudly launching research fellowships in the name of our beloved leader Dr.C.N.Annadurai as “Anna Centenary Research Fellowships” in order to further intensify research in thrust areas and to carve a niche in the National and International arena. JNCASR Summer Research Fellowships 2011

Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore, Karnataka, has invited applications for Summer Research Fellowships programme, to be offered in the ensuing session 2011. Students selected under this programme are placed with scientists at the Centre or elsewhere in India for two months. Art History Fellowships 2011–2012 Met Museum (US)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art offers annual resident fellowships in art history to qualified graduate students at the predoctoral level as well as to postdoctoral researchers. Projects should relate to the Museum’s collection. The fields of research for art history candidates include Asian art, arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, antiquities, arms and armor, costumes, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, paintings, photographs, prints, sculpture, textiles, and Western art. Some art history fellowships for travel abroad are also available for students whose projects involve firsthand examination of paintings in major European collections.

The application deadline for art history fellowships awarded for the 2011–2012 year is November 5, 2010.

Predoctoral art history fellows, with the exception of Theodore Rousseau fellows, can be asked to assist the hosting curatorial departments with projects that complement and which are incidental to their approved scholarly subject. Please be aware that not all departments request this assistance. Senior fellows are generally expected to spend all of their time on their approved fellowship projects. However, if a senior fellow would like to contribute a portion of his or her time to the department it is usually welcomed. The fellows may be asked to give gallery talks during their fellowship term and are expected to participate in a fellows’ colloquium in the second half of their fellowship in which they give a twenty-minute presentation on their work in progress.

All fellowships must take place between September 1, 2011, and August 31, 2012. Fellowships generally begin in September. Application, along with the required letters of recommendation, must be made by letter and must be received by the deadline date of November 5, 2010. Electronically submitted applications and letters of recommendation will not be accepted.

Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Conservation Science, USA

Level: Postdoctoral
Scholarship Description: The Conservation Center of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is offering a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship for a scientist interested in contributing to the field of art conservation. This position reports to the Senior Conservation Scientist and works collaboratively with all conservation staff and curatorial departments.
The Conservation Center’s research laboratory enjoys a reputation for excellence in both service and research and has a long tradition of providing training opportunities for young conservators and scientists interested in the care and preservation of paintings, works of art on paper, textiles, and three-dimensional objects. The fellow will be expected to participate in the daily activities of the laboratory including the technical examination of works of art using modern analytical equipment in the Center’s Research Laboratory (FTIR, XRD, XRF, UV-VIS, PLM, MFT and TL) while engaging in at least one significant research project on the conservation of modern materials in museum collections. This project will seek to develop preservation strategies for plastic objects in museum collections. All research will be carried out collaboratively with LACMA conservators and scientists and may include scientists from outside LACMA. Publication in the professional literature and participation in symposia, seminars and other professional meetings will be strongly encouraged.
Eligibility
Candidates must have a PhD in one of the physical sciences. A strong background in materials science, organic chemistry, or polymer science is desirable. The degree must have been obtained within the last five years. Previous experience in a museum environment is not required, but a strong interest in the visual arts is important. Excellent written and verbal skills as well as an interest in collaborative and multi-disciplinary research are essential.
Terms
The postdoctoral fellowship will be two years beginning Fall/Winter 2010 and ending in 2012, with the possibility of a one year extension. The fellow will be provided an annual stipend starting at $42,000 plus generous benefits with an annual cost of living increase. The fellow will also be provided a travel allowance and program funds for the purchase of equipment and supplies.

Harvard Scholarship : Indonesia Research Fellow at Harvard University

[Harvard University] - The (HKS) Indonesia Program invites Indonesian researchers, academics, and practitioners to apply for Indonesia Research Fellowships for the period January 15 to June 15, 2011 in order to pursue independent research projects at the Rajawali Foundation Institute for Asia, which is part of the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation of the Harvard Kennedy School. Successful applicants will join a lively community of researchers working on Asia-related issues.

* Appointments will run from January 15 to June 15, 2011.
* With instructor approval, Research Fellows may "audit" classes at the Harvard Kennedy School or other Harvard schools.
* Research Fellows will receive a certificate upon completion, but no degrees will be conferred.

* Indonesian Research Fellows will receive shared office space within the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation.
* Fellows will have access to the library system of Harvard University.
* For Indonesian Research Fellows, HKS will provide or pay for appropriate housing, health insurance, and a modest living stipend. HKS will not provide international transportation or pay for pre-departure costs. Criteria and Expectations

Fellows must be fluent in both written and spoken English. All fellows will be expected to participate in research seminars, produce a ten-page written paper summarizing their research, and to make at least two presentations (one in the Cambridge area and at least one in Indonesia) about their research.

Indonesian Research Fellowships are open to candidates from government, academia, and independent research communities. Preference will be given to candidates whose proposed area of research is linked to the Research Priorities of the HKS Indonesia Program.
