Jerman - PhD Fellowships in Biology at University of Humboldt

Scholarship Beasiswa | Germany - 12 PhD Fellowships in Biology at University of Humboldt

Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin DFG Research Training Group "Computational Systems Biology"

Biology has developed into a quantitative, information-driven science. We are seeking fellows in the new Research Training Group Computational Systems Biology (CSB) which focuses on the system-level understanding of biological data using computational methods. CSB is embedded in the thriving Berlin life-science environment and involves high-ranking research institutions such as Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics and Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine Berlin-Buch.

We offer 12 PhD fellowships and 1 postdoctoral position (TV/L E13) in the following areas:
  • Structural investigation of protein-protein and protein-RNA interactions and their role in molecular networks of the living cell
  • Detailed models of cellular processes on different levels
  • Reverse engineering for prediction of genetic networks from new types of data
  • Spatio-temporal organization of networks.
We are looking for highly-motivated students with a strong interest in systems biology and mathematical modelling. Successful applicants must hold the equivalent of amaster `s level degree in life sciences, mathematics, physics or computer sciences. The PhD fellowship comprises a monthly stipend which is initially granted for 2 years and which can be extended for another 12 months. We offer an excellent training program in computational systems biology, supervision by at least two experienced scientists, and multifarious opportunities for developing local and international collaboration.

Applications (one PDF-file containing cover letter, CV, master/diploma certificate, 1-page project description, and names and addresses of 2 referees) should be sent preferably via email until January 31, 2011.

PhD nuclear research at SCK.CEN

Scholarship Beasiswa | PhD nuclear research at SCK.CEN

deadline 25 March 2011

Scientific coordinator : Dr. D’hondt Pierre

Develop your career in nuclear research!

In a conscious desire to increase its pool of highly specialised young researchers and to tighten the links with the universities, SCK•CEN embarked in 1992 on a programme to support PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers.

Since 1992, over 100 students started a PhD in collaboration with SCK•CEN and more than 50 post-docs joined our Centre. Currently, about 50 junior scientific researchers perform their work in research fields that reflect the priority programmes and R&D topics of SCK•CEN.
Why perform a PhD or post-doc at SCK•CEN?

Preparing your doctoral thesis at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre offers you the best of both worlds: you stay in close contact with the academic world and you enjoy a unique research environment.

Practical arrangements for PhD students and post-doc researchers

Testimonials
PhD and post-doc research topics

Each year, we put forward a number of research topics, which lie within the framework of our priority R&D programme lines. Traditional topics are within the field of radiation protection, waste and disposal, reactor technology and materials issues. More recently we pay an increased attention to PhD and post-doc research in medical applications, radio- and microbiology, radioecology, and societal aspects of nuclear applications. With the development of MYRRHA, a number of the latest themes will concentrate on research in support of the development of innovative reactor systems.

Day of the PhD’s

Each year, we organise a “Day of the PhD’s”.

This “Day of the PhD’s” aims at bringing together all our young scientific researchers, their promoters and colleagues at the universities, their mentors and other scientific collaborators at SCK•CEN, and the members of SCK•CEN’s Scientific Council, in order to present and discuss the ongoing PhD and post-doc research.

More information can be found on the events page.

PhD Fellowships in IMPRS

Scholarship Beasiswa | PhD Fellowships in IMPRS ‘Primary Metabolism and Plant Growth’, Germany

OVERVIEW SCHOLASHIP BEASISWA :

The IMPRS ‘Primary Metabolism and Plant Growth’ is a doctoral programme in plant genomics and systems biology at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology and the University of Potsdam. Talented graduate students are accepted into the programme at regular intervals.

We are currently inviting applications for PhD fellowships to start summer/autumn 2011.

We seek highly motivated students who can tackle scientific problems in modern plant biology. Doctoral projects will focus on systems-oriented approaches using the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. Our research combines molecular phenotyping (‘omics’) technologies and cutting-edge analytical techniques with bioinformatics and modelling.

We offer excellent research facilities, interdisciplinary scientific training, and a comprehensive complementary training programme. Our working language is English.

Students holding or about to obtain a Master’s or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, informatics, mathematics, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
The IMPRS-PMPG is embedded in a vibrant research community with more than 100 doctoral students under the guidance of our faculty, their groups, and departments. The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant
Physiology is one of the largest plant research centres in Europe. The Science Park Potsdam-Golm hosts three Max Planck Institutes, two Fraunhofer Institutes, the University of Potsdam, and a centre for start-up companies, providing an excellent infrastructure for modern cross-disciplinary training. The campus is located in close proximity to the many research and educational facilities in Berlin.

Apply Please apply via the online application on the IMPRS-PMPG website only.
