Denmark Technical University

Scholarship Beasiswa | Denmark Technical University for Doctoral Studies

Closing Date
Scholarship Application Deadline: 31 January 2011

Scholarship Details:The overall aim of the PhD fellowship is to close the gaps in our knowledge on the anaerobic degradation pathways of nitrogen compounds in anoxic groundwater systems.

Scientific focus of the announced PhD position
Elevated inorganic nitrate concentrations in aquatic environments can cause significant impacts on aquatic ecosystems and human health. Nitrate concentrations in groundwater have increased over the past decades due to increased agricultural activity that is directly linked to food production. In addition many other sources such as municipal wastewater can also contribute to nitrate contamination in groundwater and surface water. To assess the chemical history of nitrogen-compounds in groundwater, stable isotope technique has proven to be a powerful tool in environmental science.

The research questions will primarily be investigated using microcosm experiments linked to field investigations. The project will analyze the dominant sources and sinks of nitrogen in groundwater and their degradation pathways using stable isotope technique.

Qualifications
At the date of appointment candidates must hold an MSc degree in natural science (e.g. bio/geochemistry, microbiology, hydrology), preferably with a strong background in biogeochemistry in hydrogeological or marine systems. The successful candidate must be an efficient team worker, have good communication skills, and have a critical approach to formulation and testing of hypotheses. Practical experience and a wish to work in the field and in the lab is a prerequisite.

The scholarship is open to both Danish and international applicants.

Postdoctoral in Hydrodynamic Analysis

Scholarship Beasiswa | Postdoctoral in Hydrodynamic Analysis of Ocean Wave Energy Devices, Denmark

Scholarship Beasiswa Description :

Fellowship Application Deadline: Friday December 31, 2010

A post-doc position is available at DTU Mechanical Engineering in the field of Hydrodynamic Analysis of Ocean Wave Energy Devices. The department has a well-established research program in mathematical and numerical modelling of nonlinear ocean waves and their interaction with fixed and floating marine structures. The department is strongly involved in ocean energy research through several projects focused on the extraction of wind and wave power from the ocean environment. This position part of a joint research project with external partners.

The post-doc will be responsible for providing a hydrodynamic analysis of several wave-power extraction concepts to all project partners. The analysis will be based both on the commercial wave-structure interaction code WAMIT, and on an in-house, high-order finite difference based potential flow solver for wave-structure interaction. The in house solver is currently being extended to provide support for general structures of arbitrary geometric form. This extension involves moving the solution from one structured, boundary fitted block, to multiple overlapping blocks. The first task of the post-doc will be to complete this extension to produce an efficient solver for linear wave-structure interaction on a variable depth, semi-enclosed fluid. The solver makes use of the Matlab and Fortran 90/95 programming languages, as well as the Overture framework which is written in C++.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree in a relevant field within the past two years. Strong skills in scientific computing, fluid mechanics, applied mathematics, and programming in C/C++ /Fortran/Matlab are required, as well as a keen interest in ocean energy, wave-structure interaction and the associated physical processes. Documented knowledge and experience in the areas of computational hydrodynamics; linear and nonlinear wave theory; numerical solution of potential flow problems; and the Overture C++ framework will all be considered as advantages.

GLITEMA Erasmus Mundus Scholarships

Scholarship Beasiswa | GLITEMA Erasmus Mundus Scholarships 2011

If you are lookin for scholarships to Deutsch, than here are one of much scholarships programs available, German Literature in the European Middle Ages Erasmus Mundus Scholarships.

German Literature in the European Middle Ages Scholarships is available for Employer of Erasmus Mundus

Scholarship Description:The GLITEMA (German Literature in the European Middle Ages) EMMC is an integrated Master Course run by a consortium of three full partner universities (Porto, PT [co-ordinator], Bremen, Palermo), supported by a number of associated partner HEIs (Amsterdam, FU Berlin, Cairo, Greifswald, Olomouc, Ljubljana, Moscow [Lomonosov], North Carolina, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago de Compostela, Vienna, Zurich).

The basic premise for the GLITEMA EMMC is the understanding that Medieval culture, in order to be fully comprehended, must be analysed from within its wider European context: in particular, the traditional “national philological approach”, which has informed Medieval German Studies since their inception during the 19th century, does not allow students to understand the full extent to which today’s national cultures in Europe have their roots in a common – Medieval – past. Thus, this EMMC aims to emphasize the pre-national nature of German Medieval Studies and analyse them from within their European context; to this end, the potentialities of trans-national student and staff mobility within the EU will be used to underpin the European approach to the subject.

Since most of the course will be taught in German, a good working knowledge of the language (level C.1 in Bremen and B.2 in Palermo and Porto) is a pre-requirement; tuition in this language will be offered by Palermo and Porto, while students are also expected to gain linguistic skills in Italian and/or Portuguese through intensive language training programmes.

A maximum of thirty students will be selected for the programme; only those candidates who have obtained a good first cycle degree in a relevant area of studies will be eligible for selection.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarships

Erasmus Mundus MUNDUS URBANO Scholarships

Overview
The double degree master course MUNDUS URBANO contributes to capacity building in urban development planning especially in countries of the South and the East. It places a second focus on rules and practices of international cooperation projects, where the unsatisfied demand for qualified experts is evident and in which European culture, politics and professional knowledge remain a key element.

Finally, the MUNDUS URBANO course chooses a highly interdisciplinary approach combining physical planning, economic and social development aspects, which all impact equally on the fate of cities. Especially professional staff in a leadership positions – like a director of a municipal planning office or a consultant working in a cooperation project (typical careers for graduates from this Master course) – need to develop the capacity to comprehensively understand urban development processes and to conceive possible strategies for intervention.

The main objective of this Master course is to prepare both, professionals and academics, for critically analyzing and assessing the growing problems in urban areas internationally and to increase their capacity to develop appropriate solutions in terms of architecturally, socially, economically and ecologically sustainable urban development.

Other elements of the program include joint research projects, an EU-supported scholarship program and PhD supervision.

Eligible Candidates
Applicants must provide proof of successful completion of a first university degree or the equivalent to a bachelor degree in the European Community. The marks obtained in previous university studies must be `good` or better.

Representing the level of an advanced `masters` study, MUNDUS URBANO specifically invites applications from applicants that have previously completed a full 5-year graduate university career.
Basic understanding of urban development and/or international cooperation issues are an essential asset to benefit most from the courses offered in the MUNDUS URBANO program. Such understanding is best witnessed through a minimum of one year previous work experience in a profession related to the subjects of study.

If the work experience is shorter or in a different field, the experience may be compensated by a relevant subject studied for a previous university degree (for example urban planning, architecture, urban sociology, geography, urban economics, politics etc.) or by relevant own publications

University degrees and positions held on their own do not always serve as reliable indicators for the suitability of an applicant for an interdisciplinary education course. Therefore a motivation letter (one to two pages) written in English by the applicant is requested in order to illustrate his or her good understanding of the course`s objectives and it`s usefulness for the applicant`s personal career.

In addition to the motivation letter a standard CV in table form is requested from all applicants to the MUNDUS URBANO course.

TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. Minimum TOEFL score for applications: 570 (paper based),88 (internet based) or 213 (computer based) Details of the TOEFL- test can be obtained from the website www.toefl.org
