A*STAR | Singapore Undergraduate Scholarships, NUS, NTU, SUTD


SINGAPORE UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP :

AUS supports bright individuals with a keen interest in research for a Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering at the National University of Singapore, the Nanyang Technological University and the Singapore University of Technology and Design. Upon graduation, scholars have the flexibility to pursue their PhD studies locally or abroad on A*STAR or other university scholarships. Scholars can look forward to research attachments at A*STAR’s Research Institutes with state-of-the-art facilities and be part of A*STAR’s community of diverse and renowned scientists and researchers.

Eligibility
(i) Entry point with ‘A’ Levels/ IB/ NUSHS Diploma:
For candidates on GCE ‘A’ Level syllabus

  • Candidates must offer 11 units or more
  • Attained As in three H2 Science or Mathematics subjects
  • Preferably a merit in one H3 Science or Mathematics subject

For candidates on International Baccalaureate (IB) syllabus

  • Obtained at least 39 points including 6,7,7 in higher level for Science and Mathematics subjects(exception will be made if candidate took Further Mathematics)
  • Attained at least 1 bonus point for Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge

For candidates from NUS High School of Mathematics and Science

  • Attained subject CAP of 3.60 and above, majoring in at least 3 of the following subjects:
    • Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (one of which must be with Honours)
  • Graded at least merit for their final year research project.

(ii) Entry point at Year 2, 3, 4 at NUS/NTU

  • Incumbent students at NUS/NTU will apply for AUS through their respective universities.
  • Candidates should obtain a minimum CAP score/ cum GPA of 4.5 for the academic year in which they apply.

Coverage
Successful candidates will be provided with financial support* for the duration of their undergraduate studies covering:

  • Tuition fees
  • Local sustenance allowance
  • Research attachment opportunities at A*STAR Research Institutes (minimum of 8 weeks)
  • One overseas exchange programme during the undergraduate studies (up to 6 months)

Annual renewal of the AUS is subject to scholars maintaining good academic standing.
*All rates/allowances are subject to A*STAR adjustments from time to time

Continuing with PhD studies
AUS scholars are required to embark on a PhD programme in Science or Engineering disciplines within eighteen (18) months of completion of their undergraduate studies. AUS scholars may apply to A*STAR PhD scholarships in their final year of undergraduate studies.

PhD positions at Queensland University of Technology

Scholarship Description :

Overview :
Positions under the ARC Linkage project Facilitating Business Process Standardization and Reuse. Up to 3 new positions (1 Research Fellow and up to 2 PhD students) are available at the BPM Research Group within the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. The positions are under a new research project on ?FacilitatingBusiness Process Standardization and Reuse.

Project background
One of the most pressing management challenges of today`s organisations lies in the reuse and standardisation of best practices across different sectors, products or units. This project aims to design and develop an innovative process model repository and appropriate governance structures to efficiently and effectively support the standardisation and reuse of best practices.

The project is co-founded by Suncorp, one of Australia`s top 25 listed companies and Queensland`s largest listed corporation. Suncorp provides a range of banking and insurance products directly to customers through an extensive branch and agency network, call centre operations, on-line facilities, and through intermediaries and corporate partners. The collaboration with Suncorp will offer the successful applicants an opportunity to work with real-life business process models, and the possibility to conduct case studies to validate the outcomes of their research.

Research Fellow
The role of this research fellow is to work on algorithms and techniques to facilitate standardization of proven practices in large collections ofbusiness process models. Moreover, the fellow is expected to take a key role in the management of the research project. S(he) will assist in the supervision of research students where required, and participate in the development of the project by preparing and collating publications, reports and articles, as appropriate. Furthermore, s(he) will develop, and oversee the development of, prototypical software.

The role of this PhD student is to work on algorithms to reuse best practices within large process model collections. Within this work, the PhD student will be required to conduct requirements analysis, formal algorithm specification, implementation and testing.

PhD 2
The role of this PhD student is to examine theoretically and empirically the use, appropriation, governance and impact of the process model repository to be built within this project, in contexts of process standardization and reuse. To that end, the PhD student will be required to examine managerial aspects of process modelling, the use of process modelling in actual organisational task settings, as well as important organisational decision-making structures.

Positions under the ARC Discovery project ?Risk-aware Business Process Management.

Up to 5 new positions (1 Research Fellow and up to 4 PhD students) are available at the BPM Research Group within the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. The positions are under a new research project on ?Risk-awareBusiness Process Management.

Project Background
This project will increase risk awareness in corporate process management and, in so doing, will lead to increased process awareness within corporate risk management. It will investigate, evaluate and enhance current approaches for the identification, analysis, evaluation, treatment, and overall management of risk as it relates to business processes. Informed by relevant mathematical foundations, conceptual-analytical research, and empirical evidence from a range of case studies, the project will extend established process management approaches by explicitly including the concept of risk as an integral part of process definition and enactment.

We select students each year who have the talent, aptitude and initiative to work closely with us early in their careers. Recipients not only receive crucial funding for their research, but are able to conduct groundbreaking work with access to NVIDIA products, technology and some of the most talented minds in the field.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Students must have already completed their first year of Ph.D. level studies
  • Students must have majors in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, System Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or a related area
  • Students must hold current membership on an active research team
  • Students must be enrolled as a full time Ph.D. student during the academic year of the award
