Scholarships Graduate, in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, University of Calgary, Canada

Scholaraship Overview :
Up to 4 graduate student positions in theoretical and computational chemistry will become available in my group by May 2011, September 2011 or January 2012. The successful applicants will be involved with the development of new computational methods or applications of state-of-the-art computational methodology to problems of chemical interest. Application deadlines are 4 months prior to admission . The applicant should have a solid background in (Physical) Chemistry, and a strong interest in Theoretical/Computational Chemistry as well as an average GPA corresponding to 3.3/4.0 (80 %) or more in the North American system.

Students will receive financial assistance throughout the course of their studies (4-5 years) in terms of scholarships or teaching assistance ships. The student will normally spend from 12 months to 18 months finishing the course requirements (4 half courses + a general examination in the students field of specialization. The remaining part of the program is devoted to the students research work. The student will be allocated an interim supervisor and should chose his/her permanent supervisor within 8 months after arriving in Calgary.

The course requirements for students with the equivalent of a Masters degree might be reduced to two courses. We do not have entrance examinations. The students are admitted based on their letters of reference, academic records, and recommendations from a panel of faculty members in the applicants field of specialization. Foreign students with English as a second language must pass the TOEFL test with a score of 580. All foreign students will be covered by an inexpensive medical insurance. Students will be fully supported by teaching assistance ships and scholarships for a total of $24,000 CDN. The tuition fee is covered by research grants in my group .

Last year we celebrated four decades of top-notch computer science, now we are ready for the next 40 years. Saarbrücken not only has a long tradition in informatics but is also recognized as one of the prime locations for computer science research in Germany and Europe today offering a perfect research environment for the top researchers of tomorrow.

Saarbrücken is their place to be. We offer a doctoral program in English supported by the German Excellence Initiative. The Department of Computer Science at Saarland University runs the Graduate School in close cooperation with the internationally renowned research institutions:

This unique research environment gives our Ph.D. candidates the chance to collaborate with some 200 researchers at the postdoctoral or professorial level and over 250 doctoral students, covering virtually all areas of computer science.

SEARCA Graduate Scholarships in Agriculture

Tentang SEARCA Scholarship : The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) invites applications for its graduate scholarship (MS and PhD) in agriculture and related fields (including biological sciences, social sciences, economics and statistics, forestry and fisheries, environmental sciences, agro-industrial technology and engineering, biochemistry, and development management) for School Year 2012-2013. The scholarship is open to nationals of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam who are regular employees of academic or research institutions or government agencies and not older than 35 years old.

Applications may be submitted directly to the Ministry of Education/Higher Education, or to the Ministry where the applicant is employed for preliminary screening. The Ministry where the applicant is employed may conduct preliminary screening of applicants and submit their nominations and the application documents to the Ministry of Education/Higher Education, which will then include the nominees of other Ministries in the final list of candidates accompanied by the complete set of requirements to SEARCA not later than 30 July 2011. Applicants should inquire with their respective Ministries regarding the Ministries` deadline for receiving SEARCA applications.

SEARCA scholars may study at any of the following members of the University Consortium coordinated by SEARCA: Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia; Kasetsart University, Thailand; Institut Pertanian Bogor and Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia; and University of the Philippines Los Baños, Philippines. Other reputable universities outside the University Consortium but within the Southeast Asian region may also serve as study posts of scholars under special arrangements and project agreements. Applicants may apply online via the SEARCA website, but original application documents must still be sent to their Ministry for official endorsement and submission to SEARCA. Applicants are required to submit to SEARCA applications for admission to theGraduate Schools of at least three universities in the list.

The topic of the research that the applicants plan to conduct for their thesis must be in line with either of the priority thrusts of SEARCA, namely: natural resource management and agricultural competitiveness.

[Scholarship] The Graduate Training Centre of Neuroscience is the first international neuroscience Graduate School was established at the University of Tübingen in 1999. In the future, three Schools will provide research oriented career tracks – leading to a master or doctoral degree – that provide an ideal preparation for a career in science and academia. The three graduate programs will complement one another at best and, thus, provide a markedly broad sprectrum of neuroscience research and training opportunities in Tübingen. Teaching is entirely in English.

A large international faculty of renowned scientists together with stateof-the-art facilities provide an outstanding environment for interdisciplinary research and training in neuroscience. Participating institutions include:

  • Entry requirements: BSc for master program; MSc, Diploma or MD for doctoral program.

  • The selection procedure for a place on the master program is three stepped: (1) written application, (2) subject test, (3) interview. Students interested in a doctoral project may contact research groups of their interest directly.
  • Scholarships are available for excellent international students. Doctoral students are generally funded through research grants.
  • Tuition fees for master students amount to 610 Euros per month. Doctoral students are exempted.

Scholarship Description: The Gilder Lehrman History Scholars Program Provides an opportunity for the next generation of historians to experience primary-source research and to work closely with eminent scholars.

The Gilder Lehrman History Scholars Program has two components:

Gilder Lehrman History Scholars (10 Students) are invited to participate in a five-week research program in New York City from June 26 to July 30, 2011; each student is awarded a fellowship worth $10,000 that includes tuition, books, field trips, a travel allowance of up to $600 for transportation to and from the program in New York City, room and board, and a $2,200 stipend.

Research Position in Biological Anthropology

Fellowship Description : The Research Group on “Plant Foods and Hominin Dietary Ecology” in the Department of Human Evolution of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig (Germany) invites applications for a post-doctoral researcher in biological anthropology. In the department, palaeoanthropological research is conducted within a multidisciplinary environment involving three main groups of scientists: biological anthropologists, Palaeolithic archaeologists and archaeological scientists/ geochronologists.
The position is a research-only post with no teaching obligations with an initial contract of two years that may be extended, to begin January 2011 at the earliest. The project will provide substantial support in a highly stimulating environment. The successful candidate will work closely with Amanda Henry on aspects of plant foods in the dietary ecology of later hominins and modern humans.

Requirements
We are interested in candidates with a strong background in one or more of the following:

• Stable isotope research, specifically nitrogen, carbon and strontium;
• Human or primate dietary ecology;
• Plant microfossil research.
The selected candidate must have a PhD and ideally will have post-doctoral experience with a strong track record of research.
