Scholarship Description: The present PhD project deals with neuroimaging data (functional magnetic resonance imaging; fMRI) collected in order to elucidate how Parkinson’s disease (PD) affects brain functions. PD is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that often impairs motor skills, speech, and cognitive functions. The NYPUM (Nyinsjuknande i Parkinsons i Umeå) project follows newly diagnosed PD patients over 5 years and measures an array of aspects relevant for gaining information of the disease and its progression over time. The applicant will work in the context of Umeå Center for Functional Brain Imaging . The position is funded in part via the Swedish Brain Power program and the applicant will be expected to make a contribution to SBP projects.
Qualifications
Applicants must 1) hold or anticipate receiving within the next months a University degree equivalent to a European University Master degree in the fields of: Biomedical Science, Cognitive Science, Psychology, or Medical Program (240 hp) or 2) have 120 Swedish (old) credits (Swe. poäng; corresponding to 180 ECTS credits) of higher education studies in the same fields or equivalent taken before July 1, 2007. Experience from work with PD patients and/or functional neuroimaging is desirable.
