[Scholarship] Postdoctoral Research Scientist

The post-holder carry out a research program aimed at exploiting the differences between normal and tumour cell signalling for therapeutic benefit in the treatment of cancer with radiotherapy with a focus on tumour-stroma interaction and its impact on tumour radiation survival. [Blog]

Fellowship Description: The Gray Institute for Radiation Oncology and Biology is an exciting initiative directed by Professor Gillies McKenna, who as the Professor of Radiation Oncology and Biology at the University of Oxford, has taken on the challenge to grow and strengthen academic research and clinical work in the field of Radiation Oncology. This initiative in Oxford enhances the collaborative support of the Medical Research Council (MRC) and Cancer Research UK (CRUK) in this developing area of clinically based research.

The Gray Institute for Radiation Oncology and Biology is research-focused and clinically relevant, The Institute is housed in a state-of-the art facility which has the flexibility to incorporate the future developments in radiobiology. The Gray Institute is the leading centre for the identification and development of new translational targets, and provides education and training in the field of radiation oncology and biology The Institute has led the University’s successful bid for the CRUK & EPSRC Cancer Imaging Centre. As the National Centre of Excellence in Radiation Oncology and Biology it combines the strengths of the integrated multidisciplinary research teams and is developing new research groups and activities including a clinical trials team.

The new purpose built facilities provide an exciting highly stimulating environment, being situated in the Old Road Campus Research Building together with the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, the Jenner Institute and the Structural Genomics Consortium.
