The Faculty of Applied Economics has a full-time vacancy (m/f) for a
Doctoral researcher
at the Department of Marketing and the Business Statistics Research Unit for the project
Design and validation of models for short-term and long-term media mix investment optimization
Job description. You prepare a Ph.D. thesis of the research project described below. You contribute to the research of the Department of Marketing and the Business Statistics Research Unit. You write scientific articles on the subject of your thesis. You have a limited number of teaching duties.
Project description. Advertisers face the decision how much to spend on advertising and how to allocate these resources across media types in order to achieve the best results. The project investigates the impact of advertising investments, media mix allocation and advertising share of voice on short-term advertising and brand effects, on consumer activation (gathering extra information, visiting websites and generating word-of-mouth), and on their impact on long-term brand effects. The studies are based on a large, detailed and growing database made available for academic research by a large commercial broadcaster. This database combines data on real-life advertisements: measures of ad recall, recognition and attribution, short-term and long-term brand effects (brand attitude and brand equity) and customer activation measures, and data on advertising spending in all mass media for large samples of consumers over a long period of time and for a great variety of brands, product categories and advertising campaigns. The analysis of this data requires state-of-the-art statistical models due to the presence of categorical outcomes and the resulting need for non-linear statistical models, the multi-level nature of the data and the usefulness of mixture-amount models as a novel technique to assess optimal media mixes for different levels of advertising investments.
Profile and requirements. You have a Masters degree or equivalent in (business) economics, commercial engineering, econometrics or applied statistics. Your research and teaching skills are compatible with the policies of the University of Antwerp. You can provide evidence of an excellent academic record. Scholarship Programme | Indonesian Arts And Culture
Scholarship Programme : 25 April – 29 July 2011
The Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship has been conducted since 2003 and was initially offered to and participated by member countries of the South West Pacific Dialogue (SwPD); Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and the host Indonesia.
Bearing in mind the significance and advantages obtained from the program, the offer was expanded over the years to include member countries of ASEAN, ASEAN+3, and PIF, as well as India and South Africa. In 2008, Indonesia welcomed the participation of Azerbaijan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Since 2009, Austria has joined the program and in 2010 the Government of Indonesia has given the opportunity for participants from France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain and Suriname. This year, Indonesia will invite participant from Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Turkey to join the program.
Due to the limited space and the vast amount of interest in the program, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in cooperation with Indonesian embassies and consulates overseas, hold a series of selection process. Taken into considerations are, among others, the participants’ background, gender and regional representation.
In order to deepen the participants’ understanding of Indonesian arts and culture, and to enhance their skills for the final performance, participants will be divided and assigned by the organising committee to different arts centers for the duration of approximately two and a half month. The arts centers are located in Bandung, West Java; Denpasar, Bali; Solo, Central Java; Surabaya, East Java; and Bandar Lampung, Lampung.
Participants will live within or around the arts centers, allowing for the chance to experience the local heritage and interact with the local community. Synergy between theory and practices shared inside and outside the art centers would undoubtedly become the driving force for shaping international cultures and norms, and will eventually strengthen regional as well as global understanding and cooperation at a people-to-people level.

Scholarship Beasiswa | PhD Scholarship in Biophysical Chemistry
Last Day of Applying: 31 January 2011
Scholarship Overview : The position is linked to the research project "Molecular basis of heat and desiccation tolerance of bacterial cells and spores", funded by Nestec Ltd, Lund University and the Swedish Research Council. The research work will be carried out at the Division of Biophysical Chemistry, which belongs to the Center for Molecular Protein Science in the Department of Chemistry. The Division is located at Lund University`s Center for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (Kemicentrum). Kemicentrum is one of the largest research units for chemistry in Scandinavia with a staff of ca 400 and a yearly research budget of ca 350 million SEK. Research within the Division of Biophysical Chemistry ranges from water physics and nuclear spin relaxation theory to fundamental and applied problems in the life sciences, with a focus on protein interactions and dynamics.
Job assignments All known life forms depend on water, but certain organisms, including bacteria, can survive lengthy periods of extreme dehydration (desiccation). This anhydrobiosis phenomenon is often coupled to high intracellular levels of certain disaccharides. The most stress tolerant life forms are endospores. These survival capsules, produced by some bacteria when deprived of nutrients, can remain in a metabolically dormant state for many years.
The aim of your research in this project is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of desiccation tolerance and heat resistance in vegetative bacteria and endospores. These mechanisms likely involve protein stability and mobility, membrane permeability and enzyme activity. All of these factors are strongly influenced by biomolecule-water interactions. A major focus of the project is therefore to characterize the physical properties of water and proteins in intact cells and spores under different external conditions. This can be done with a specialized nuclear magnetic resonance technique, Magnetic Relaxation Dispersion (MRD), by measuring how the spin relaxation rate of deuterium nuclei depends on the applied magnetic field strength. For more information on the MRD technique, see: E Persson & B Halle, Cell water dynamics on multiple time scales, Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 105, 6266 (2008), and E P Sunde, P Setlow, L Hederstedt & B Halle, The physical state of water in bacterial spores, Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 106, 19334 (2009).
Your main research activities in this project will be MRD and other biophysical experiments, quantitative analysis of the resulting data, and development and testing of models of desiccation tolerance and heat resistance. You will also culture bacteria and prepare samples for MRD measurements. Strains of vegetative bacteria and ultrapure endospore preparations will be supplied by collaboration partners in the project: Nestlé Research Center, Lausanne (bacterial strains) and prof Peter Setlow, University of Connecticut (endospores). These collaboration partners will also contribute microbiological expertise.
The resistance of bacteria and endospores to extreme environmental stress is not only a fascinating biological phenomenon. Inactivation of pathogenic bacteria and endospores that can survive in a desiccated state and also withstand high temperatures is of vital concern in the food industry. An interesting question that also will be addressed in the project is how to use fundamental understanding of molecular mechanisms to improve existing methods for inactivating contaminating bacteria or endospores in food preparations.
As a doctoral student you will mainly be working with your research project, but you can also be given other tasks, such as teaching or instrument responsibilities. If you engage in undergraduate teaching, the PhD position will be extended by a corresponding period. Within the project you will travel to visit collaborating laboratories and to participate in international conferences.
Regulations for employment as a postgraduate student can be found in the Swedish Statute Book (SFS 1998:80).
Eligibility/Entry Requirements The general eligibility requirement for doctoral studies is a university degree of at least 240 ECTS credits, including at least 60 credits at an advanced level.
We also welcome applications from highly motivated students who have not yet obtained their degree but will do so in the first half of 2011.
Basis of Assessment Employment as a doctoral student can only be granted if you have been accepted to the PhD study program. The selection to this program is based on an assessment of your ability to perform well in and benefit from the program. The assessment considers the following aspects in particular:
Documented knowledge and skills relevant to the research project and study results in particularly relevant courses.
Ability to work independently and to formulate and solve scientific problems. Such abilities can be demonstrated, for example, in a Master Thesis or in a discussion of scientific problems during a possible interview.
Other experience relevant to postgraduate studies, such as professional experience.
The specific eligibility requirement for this PhD position is an advanced degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics or a related discipline, including at least 50 credits of courses in mathematics, computer programming and molecular physics / biophysics or physical chemistry / biophysical chemistry.
Knowledge of and practical experience with nuclear magnetic resonance, protein science and/or microbiology is considered a merit. We are seeking a highly motivated student with the ability to perform high-quality research work. An excellent command of written and spoken English is a prerequisite.

If you are lookin for scholarships to Deutsch, than here are one of much scholarships programs available, German Literature in the European Middle Ages Erasmus Mundus Scholarships.
German Literature in the European Middle Ages Scholarships is available for Employer of Erasmus Mundus
Scholarship Description:The GLITEMA (German Literature in the European Middle Ages) EMMC is an integrated Master Course run by a consortium of three full partner universities (Porto, PT [co-ordinator], Bremen, Palermo), supported by a number of associated partner HEIs (Amsterdam, FU Berlin, Cairo, Greifswald, Olomouc, Ljubljana, Moscow [Lomonosov], North Carolina, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago de Compostela, Vienna, Zurich).
The basic premise for the GLITEMA EMMC is the understanding that Medieval culture, in order to be fully comprehended, must be analysed from within its wider European context: in particular, the traditional “national philological approach”, which has informed Medieval German Studies since their inception during the 19th century, does not allow students to understand the full extent to which today’s national cultures in Europe have their roots in a common – Medieval – past. Thus, this EMMC aims to emphasize the pre-national nature of German Medieval Studies and analyse them from within their European context; to this end, the potentialities of trans-national student and staff mobility within the EU will be used to underpin the European approach to the subject.
Since most of the course will be taught in German, a good working knowledge of the language (level C.1 in Bremen and B.2 in Palermo and Porto) is a pre-requirement; tuition in this language will be offered by Palermo and Porto, while students are also expected to gain linguistic skills in Italian and/or Portuguese through intensive language training programmes.
A maximum of thirty students will be selected for the programme; only those candidates who have obtained a good first cycle degree in a relevant area of studies will be eligible for selection.
