[Sweden] - Postdoctoral Position on Aerosol, Vegetation and Climate Modelling

[Beasiswa] - Postdoctoral Position on Aerosol, Vegetation and Climate Modelling, Sweden

Study Subject: Environmental and Climate Research
Employer: Lund University
Level: Postdoctoral

Scholarship Description:The employee will conduct research within the strategic and cross-cutting research platform of Modelling the Regional and Global Earth System? (MERGE) at Lund University. MERGE involves also several other Swedish universities as well as the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI). MERGE focuses on the development of a new generation of climate models and their application to a range of problems and questions related to regional and global climate change and its impacts.
MERGE is a strategic research area at Lund University, with particular emphasis on the terrestrial biosphere as a part of the climate system. One key question is how vegetation-related trace gas emissions of biogenic volatile organic substances (BVOC) give rise to secondary organic aerosol (SOA) in the atmosphere and its interaction with cloud and radiation related physical processes. Although BVOC are a dominant source of SOA particles there are a range of important uncertainties related to BVOC emission and SOA spatial and temporal patterns. Climate models are still in initial stages of modelling these processes.
At Lund University, there are strong research areas on (i) detailed aerosol studies (Nuclear physics), with focus on experimental field and laboratory studies, and (ii) process-based vegetation and BVOC modelling (ENES).
The position is targeted at process-based modelling of BVOC-SOA interactions, and involves research linking detailed aerosol properties? and aerosol-cloud interactions, process-based terrestrial modelling, and, not least, incorporation of results in advanced climate modelling.

The position will be at the Centre for environmental and climate research at Lund University, and affiliated with the strategic research area MERGE. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with the Lund University Nuclear Physics and the Department of Earth and Ecosystem Sciences.

Eligible candidates
will hold a Ph.D. in Atmospheric or Geobiosphere Sciences or another relevant science field
have defended their thesis less than three years ago
have previous experience of the development and application of climate models
sufficient programming and computing skills to undertake the required work
adequate skills in written and spoken English
The following additional qualifications are considered advantageous:
documented knowledge of atmospheric chemistry, aerosol studies, biogeochemistry or similar fields
prior experience with the model system EC-EARTH or its relevant components (IFS, TM5, M7).
