EXCHANGE PROGRAM | The objective of the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program is to provide a large and diverse group of student leaders with in-depth exposure to US society, culture and academic institutions by engaging in substantive academic exchanges at colleges and universities in the United States.
The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program will provide one-semester or one academic year scholarships to outstanding college students from non-elite, underrepresented sectors in society. Scholars will be enrolled full-time in undergraduate course work chosen from the US host institution’s existing curriculum to allow for ample opportunity for on-going interaction with US faculty and student peers, and for exposure to US academic and classroom culture.
Successful candidates will begin their scholarships in Fall 2011 or Spring 2012.
General Eligibility Requirements
1. Philippine citizenship
2. English proficiency
3. Currently enrolled in a 4-year bachelor’s degree program; second year or third year college students, 18 to 23 years old at the time of application.
4. Outstanding undergraduate record
5. Strong motivation and leadership skills
6. Successful applicants must return to the Philippines upon completion of their non-degree study program and resume their studies in their Philippine university.
Individuals holding dual citizenship, are permanent residents of the U.S., and/or are presently studying in the US are not eligible.
Required Documents
A complete application consists of the following:
1. Completed, signed Global Undergraduate Exchange Program application form
2. Personal statement in English, 350-500 words, typed/computerized
3. Copy of biographic & signature pages of your passport, if available
4. Official transcripts for years of university study (with English translations; high school transcript for first year college applicants); Please provide grade equivalences used by your university.
5. Official results of the national general secondary school leaving exam (National achievement test)
6. Three (3) letters of recommendation from teachers/professors. One letter must be from the applicant’s high school.
7. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), if available.
8. Two (2) passport-size photos
Instructions
1. All forms in this application are to completed in English and typewritten in black ink or printed from a computer.
2. All pages and parts of the application must be completed and submitted with the other required documents to constitute a full/complete dossier. DO NOT ATTACH YOUR BIO DATA.
3. Each page of the following application carries its own instructions, which should be read carefully before proceeding.
4. Every question must be answered completely and carefully. Please make every effort, however, to limit your responses within the space provided.
5. Completed applications must be received (not postmarked) by the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF) by November 5, 2010. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
6. Submit/Mail completed applications to the Philippine-American Educational Foundation, 10/F Ayala Life-FGU Center, 6811 Ayala Avenue, Makati City, Philippines 1226.
7. Candidates must attach complete and certified true copy of academic documents (NOT ORIGINALS) covering the entire period of study at universities. Documents submitted become property of PAEF and will not be returned.
8. Applicants from Visayas and Mindanao area who will make it to the interview phase of the selection process should have Skype facility to use.
