Fellowship Application Deadline: 17 November 2010
Fellowship Description: The project will be an experimental study of two phase flow in porous media and fractures. We will focus on two connected problems which are not well understood, and which have major impact for understanding water and gas injection under stimulated production: 1) Two phase flow at finite viscosity contrast. 2) Steady-state flow under simultaneous injection of two fluids in a porous medium. It will be of particular interest to study the structure and the avalanche dynamics of the displacement processes.
The work will be performed at the research group Advanced Materials and Complex Systems (AMCS) at The Department of Physics, University of Oslo. The AMCS group works on a variety of systems experimentally, theoretically and numerically. Among systems studied are granular materials, vortex matter in superconductors, domains in magnetic films, fractures, brittle and porous media, and electronic micro- and nano- devices.
Requirements:
The candidate must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in experimental physics.
The candidate should have a strong background (Ph.D. or corresponding qualifications) from experimental physics. Experience with physics of porous media, fractures, hydrodynamics, and in addition experience with image processing is an advantage.
The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.
