Fellowship Description: One post-doc will be positioned at KCK/Chemical Engineering and one at CERC/department of Applied Mechanics and a strong collaboration between the KCK and CERC is planned. The position at CERC will contain studies of emissions formation in high efficiency combustion systems (mainly experiments) and engine tests with different aftertreatment devices such as particulate filters, and NOx traps and catalysts. Different measurement methods will be used, both conventional and laser based.
The position at KCK will contain detection of different poisons on the catalytic surface from the engine experiments with different bio-fuels. XPS will be the technique for this part. Reactor experiments will be conducted to get a deep understanding of the effects of these poisons. The project will also include preparation of catalysts, micro calorimetry and different characterization techniques (for example XRD, FTIR, BET, etc).
Both at KCK and CRC we work intra-disciplinary between several departments, for CERC: departments of Applied Mechanics and Signals and Systems and for KCK: Applied Physics, Applied Surface Chemistry and Chemical engineering. We work in close connection with industry and the member companies are for KCK: AB Volvo, Scania CV AB, Volvo Car Corporation AB, SAAB Automobile Powertrain AB, ECAPS and Haldor Topsøe A/S and for CERC: SAAB Automobile Powertrain AB, Scania CV AB, Volvo Powertrain AB, Volvo Car Corporation, Statoil AB, Aspen Petroleum, ABB Automation Products AB, Mecel Engine Systems AB and Honda.
Required qualifications
A suitable background for the position at KCK: is a PhD in chemical engineering, chemistry or physics, with focus on catalysis and at CERC: is a PhD in mechanical engineering, with a focus on combustion and emissions formation in internal combustion engines. The positions are placed at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and Department of Applied mechanics, respectively, at Chalmers University of Technology. The positions are 2 years.
