Scholarship Introduction;
Playwrights’ Center Jerome Fellowships are awarded annually, providing emerging American playwrights with funds and services to aid them in the development of their craft. Three $16,000 fellowships will be awarded in 2011-12; fellows also receive $1,000 in development support. Fellows spend a year’s residency in Minnesota receiving Center opportunities including readings and workshops with professional directors, dramaturgs, and actors. Underwritten by a grant from the Jerome Foundation, the Jerome Fellowships have been awarded by The Playwrights’ Center since 1976.
Eligibility for scholarship:
* Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
* Applicants may not have had more than two different works fully produced by professional theaters at the time of application, defined as productions for which the author and/or primary artists (actors, directors, creative collaborators) were compensated, and received at least three public performances. Ten-minute or one-act plays and university, college, secondary school, amateur, and Equity showcase/waiver productions are not considered full productions

How to apply:
Fellows spend the 12-month fellowship period in Minnesota actively participating in the Center’s programs. Housing and travel are not provided.Playwrights may not receive more than two Jerome Fellowships. A previous recipient applying for a second fellowship must submit a different play than the play accompanying his/her first application.Grant recipients may not receive any other Playwrights’ Center fellowships or grants during the grant year. Recipients are required to participate actively through volunteer opportunities and Center events during the grant year. Completed Reference Forms must be received at the Center’s office by the application deadline for an applicant to be considered for a fellowship.Create a single PDF document containing the following elements, arranged in the specified sequence.A cover sheet with your name, work sample title, phone number(s), email address, and mailing address (including city,state & ZIP code) presented in a clear format. The cover sheet should also include the following statement: I hereby certify that the information contained in this application is true and correct to the best of my knowledge.One full-length play script, with your name and play title on the cover page. All script submissions must be written only by the applicant; no cowritten submissions will be accepted. Scripts for musicals may be submitted by the book writer only. The submitted script must be a complete draft that represents your best playwriting. If it is not your most recent work, please indicate on your resumé what you’ve been writing since then. If your play contains copyrighted works (songs, poems, etc), you must cite the source material, certify you have permission to use it, and supply written proof of that permission accompanying your application. A one-page playwriting resumé (listing all readings, productions, awards, commissions, etc.) and/or autobiographical narrative. Please mark clearly which productions meet the above criteria for being “fully produced by professional theaters” (as defined above, in the Eligibility section) and provide contact information for those theaters.A one-page description of artistic goals for the fellowship year.Name the PDF file with your last name (eaxmple: application sent by Jane Smith = Smith.pdf).
